the 2nd forum of Japanese Association of Soma was held

On September 5, 2026, 2nd Forum of Japanese Association of Soma was held at Waseda University’s Toyama Campus. This year’s theme was “Exploring Comfort: Resonant Bodies and the Future of Well-Being.”

One of the distinctive features of this year’s forum was the gathering of experts from a wide range of fields around the shared theme of embodiment. In addition to interdisciplinary dialogues such as “Manga × Drama,” “Medicine × Bodily Expression,” and “Noh × Zen,” the program included experiential workshops exploring embodiment through voice, touch, dance, makeup, taiko drumming, and the conch shell. By engaging directly with bodily sensations and movement, the forum created a space where academic inquiry and practice intersected in the exploration of what it means to feel “comfortable.”

The Miyata Lab gave three presentations under the theme “Care × Somatic Education: Research and Practice at Waseda University.” Although the presentations focused on different topics—mindful eating, trauma care, and foster care—the session provided an opportunity to reconsider and connect them through the common perspective of care mediated by the body.
